“The RISA-3D software was critical because of the spine beam, which cantilevered out by 27 feet. It tapers and as it travels to the corner it increases to a 14-inch section. The deflection of the model was critical.”

About the Project:

The overhanging steel roof, shaped to mimic the leaf of a beech tree, is the prominent feature of this $1.5-million project. The primary roof-framing members spring from the center spine and cantilever over the glass walls to the roof edge. Since most steel members are exposed and detailed to be continuous, RISA-3D helped the engineers create a design that optimized system strength and stiffness while minimizing member sizes.
