The Art Museum of Western Virginia is a new 80,000-sf steel framed building being constructed in Roanoke, Virginia. The architectural design, conceived by Randall Stout and Associates of Los Angeles, was inspired by the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as the exposed and stratified geological formations of the area.
RISA-3D was used to create a model of the entire structure, including all steel beams, columns, and braces. This allowed careful tracking of loads from the roof to the foundation, which is critical in a building with over two dozen column transfers. Portions of the building where composite floor construction was utilized were also analyzed using RISAFloor.
